Lesbian, Gay and Bisexual Awareness and Issues Training Thursday 9th October 2014 9.30 – 4.00pm at MESMAC NE, 11 Nelson Street Newcastle NE1 5AN. This one day course is appropriate for any worker, statutory or independent/voluntary sector, who provides services to people who identify as Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual (LGB), those who think that they don’t but aren’t sure about that, and those who would like to be more effective working with LGB people! Confident about your knowledge of LGB people?… Are you sure? This training includes: Raising awareness of issues often faced by LGB people, Basic knowledge on topics affecting any age group, including: Appropriate use of language, Homophobia and heterosexism, Rights and the law, Information specifically around young people, Action planning and resources. There will also be opportunities to ask for advice on how to improve your service provision and how to make your service more LGB friendly. This is an ‘Advanced’ course offered through the Newcastle Sexual Health Training Programme. Participants need to have completed the Essential ‘Introduction to Sexual Health for Practitioners Working with Young People’ course before attending this course.
