MESMAC’s HIV TEST SERVICE

A FREE and CONFIDENTIAL1 hour HIV testing service open to gay and bisexual men in the North East is available at MESMAC North East in our offices in both Newcastle and Sunderland. The test is a simple finger prick test with a pre and post test discussion and results within the hour. The people who perform the test are all fully trained by the New Croft Centre sexual health service in Newcastle and are either MESMAC or SHINE (Sexual Health In Newcastle) staff. The kit is Alere 4th generation antibody/antigen testing and is 99.7% accurate. The sessions in Newcastle are available every Tuesday between 5-7pm for drop in and Monday – Thursday by appointment. MESMAC commissioned a 10 minute presentation of the 1 hour HIV test being offered in our Newcastle office. The aim was to show how this free and confidential service is carried out and to offer more choices around HIV testing. The service is set in a relaxed environment that feedback says is very welcoming and non judgemental. AWARD WINNING SERVICE

FASTEST was awarded the winner of the PCT ’Partnership Working Category’ for the GOOD PRACTISE AWARDS 2007 – 08 and runner up for the DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH ‘Health and Social Care Awards 2008′ for the North East Region. The service also won the Nursing In Practice award in 2008.
