MESMAC TURNS 20
This year MESMAC celebrates 20 years of service to the LGBT communities of North East England. MESMAC was founded in 1990 as a response to the HIV/AIDS epidemic of the late 1980's and has continued through to the present day having adapted to the times using a community development style of working. MESMAC North East will be celebrating our 20th birthday through the year with some special events. Stay tuned for further news as and when it is announced.

NEWCASTLE CITY COUNCIL - 
A GAY FRIENDLY EMPLOYER
Newcastle City Council have leapt up a league table which lists Britain’s top 100 employers for gay staff. The council was ranked 30th best place to work for lesbian, gay and bisexual staff in 2010 compared to 61st place last year in Stonewall’s Workplace Equality Index.
The index is based on a range of key indicators which this year included the largest ever survey of lesbian, gay and bisexual (LGB) employees, with over 7,000 participants. It showed that staff satisfaction levels were highest at those organisations at the top of the Index. The inspection recognised that they had set up a number of initiatives to ensure LGB employees can meet to discuss issues that affect them, and set up the ARCH system to record and report homophobic crime. IBM topped the index.

HIV FASTEST WINS 3 AWARDS
FASTEST was awarded the winner of the PCT 'Partnership Working Category' for the GOOD PRACTISE AWARDS 2007 - 08 and runner up for the DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH 'Health and Social Care Awards 2008' for the North East Region.
