Northumbria Police Post Boxes for LGBT Concerns

Police Post BoxNorthumbria Police has set up post boxes in Newcastle specifically for members of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) communities. The force said they were an alternative way to report issues or concerns by people who may feel uncomfortable discussing them face to face. They are on level 2 at the City Library, the Eagle pub on Scotswood Road and Northumbria University Students’ Union. All are checked weekly by a dedicated officer. PC Ross Turner said: “We have introduced the post boxes so that any concerns the LGBT community has can still be heard. “I hope people take the time to use them so that we are given the opportunity to respond and deal with issues affecting them.” PC Ross Turner is an LGBT liaison officer and has regular drop in sessions at MESMAC where your concerns can be shared in confidence. You can also speak to MESMAC about issues that are concerning you if you would prefer to report an issue anonymously. Check Northumbria Polices official press release HERE! Please note you are reminded that the police should be contacted more directly on 999 or 101 for urgent matters or in an emergency.
